Why should learning to write your ABCs be boring? Swim through the undersea ocean to choose a letter, and then practice writing the letter using guided strokes against a backdrop unique to each letter. Watch an eerie nautilus float by as you draw an "N", or watch a volcanic undersea vent erupt as you draw a "V".
LetterWriter:Oceans doesnt just display the letter and leave your child to randomly draw on the screen. Instead, it prompts your child with the correct stroke orders in sequence, reinforcing the stroke motion both before and after they make it. Their companion in this is a friendly fish who swims to the start of the stroke, and follows their finger along as they make it. When the stroke is completed, they get instant feedback, and earn a starfish each time they finish a letter.
When your child earns the fourth starfish for a letter, they unlock a storybook, which tells a brief poem, celebrating language and the wonders of the undersea world.
- Created by parents and educators.
- Contains exercises for all 26 capital letters, each with its own unique backdrop.
- Great for kids learning to write - pre-K through kindergarten.
- Younger kids can enjoy it as an interactive ABCs storybook.
Pros and cons of Letter Writer Oceans (Preschool ABC's) app for iPhone and iPad
Letter Writer Oceans (Preschool ABC's) app good for
I wish I had this app for my daughter when she was learning to write. It is one of the best kids apps I have seen on itunes. So nicely done! I love the poems and soothing sounds! Cant wait to share with family and friends.
Love this app!! It is so easy and really helps kids learn the correct way to write their letters. There is also a super cool background. This is a must have app!
A lovely app for children. Fun, imaginative, beautiful sound and animation. Nice work.
My five year old loves this "game". It does a wonderful job cementing the writting skills he works on in kindergarten. He found the poem feature today and I had to wrestle away my phone from him to write this review.
When my son works on his practice sheets from Kindergarten, he still has trouble writing some letters backwards, or in the wrong order -- resulting in huge letters. This is a fun way for him to practice his trouble letters in a way that is different from the written exercises. It feels like a game to him, as he does each letter enough times to earn the poem. I can the reset the letters for the next round of practice. I see immediate improvement on his homework sheets after he plays this game!
This little app packs an incredible amount of value for $1.99. The art, animation, and sound especially are very appealing. The app store needs more quality apps like this! I cant wait for the lowercase version!
Some bad moments
No feed bck given after letter was completed and it doesnt say the letters! The ocean theme is great and the tracing with the fish is cute but its lacking!!
This exactly the kind of thing kids need! This game is beautiful, calming, and the letter writing works spot on! Maybe we can get some lowercase letters in Letterwriter Oceans 2?
It would be logical and helpful if the letters the children were working on were each said out loud, perhaps when the letter first appears on the screen and just after the child finishes writing it. This way the program would teach the alphabet and how to write letters simulantesously. It should also have a lower case option. If you added the lower case option, then the letters when said out loud should sound something like this -- big A, little a or uppercase A, lower case a. I would give the program a five star rating if it did this. Right now it is very pretty looking program that is greatly lacking edcuationally.
